2011 in Review: Newsies

According to one Bond villain, “There’s no news like bad news.” Which is generally true when it comes to most spot news. Since I freelance, I only cover the occasionally news assignment. Sure these aren’t the most enthralling photos or stories, but it’s on assignments like these I start to feel like I am a part of something and I am making a contribution as a witness.  So here’s a brief synopsis of these photos. Enjoy:

-police raid on drug den

-apartment fires

-food shortage at the food bank

-road construction

-closing of Borders Books (sad day, that was my favorite bookstore growing up)

-Memphis preparing for last spring’s floods

-death of Steve Jobs

-Musicians funeral for street musician Rudy Williams, the Mayor of Beale Street

-Funeral for Memphis Tigers Basketball coach, Larry Finch

2011 in Review: Person of the Year: The Protestor

Welcome to the my new wordpress blog!

This is the first in a series of posts looking back at my work last year.  To kick things off this slideshow is my localized version of TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year: The Protestor. While I did not cover any groups that “occupied” anything. I did cover rallies, debates. arguments and picketers for school charters, bike lanes, union workers, environmental activism, and so on. So, here’s to the protestor.
